Introduction: The name Danish Naivists covers a group of the most prominent Danish naivistic artists: Edel Bærskog, Tom M. Jensen, Ib Meyer, Anton Juul Pedersen, Walther Schaldemose, Ruth Schmidt and Carla Thonsgaard.
Tom M. Jensen initiated the group in the period between 1984-90 in
connection with various exhibitions throughout the country. The name stems from the first exhibition of naïve art: "Danish
Naïvists" at "Galleri Knud Grothe", Charlottenlund,
1984, in which Carla Tonsgaard, Anton Juul Pedersen and Tom Jensen
participated. In 1985 "Galleri Knud Grothe" repeated the successful
exhibition, this time with participation of Ib Meyer. Walther Schaldemose joined the group in 1987 during an exhibition at
"Varmegalleri", and in 1988 Ruth Schmidt joined the group at
an exhibition in "Galleri Melfar", Middelfart. Its final
member, Edel Bærskog joined the group in 1990, in connection with an
exhibition at "Galleri Aurora" on Funen.
In 1994 the seven artists participated in the naïvist triennial
"Insita 94" at the National Gallery in Bratislava, and in 1995
they exhibited their works at "Den Frie" under the name of
"Danish Naïvists". |
